Description:

Tobacco box made of cast brass with elongated oval shape with octagonal sides bevelled up and down, lid and bottom flat. Lid with single-hinged hinge and closure with sliding hook, centrally in relief a standing oval medallion with a right facing bust of a king with laurel wreath and a square lace collar, "GVST.ADOLP.D.G. SVEG.GOF.WAND.REX. M.P.F.D.RET.G.I.DO ". Bottom underside standing oval medallion on which left standing lion with sword and saber, standing amidst weapons, circular "DEO.ET.VICTRICIBVS.ARMIS" and year "1631". Bottom scratched owner initials "AP".

Comments
Voorgestelde is koning Gustaaf Adolf II van Zweden (1611-1632), geboren 1594, sterft 06-11-1632 in Lützen. Lutheraan en verdediger van het protestantisme in Duitsland, vanaf 1630 gewaperderhand en met succes tot zijn nederlaag in 1632. Spreuk: "Door God en de wapens (is hij) overwinnaar". De afbeelding is pro-protestants en dus contra katholiek.
